Come rain, come shine, a motley bunch of reasonably sane, normally respectable West Walians can be observed to follow a strange monthly ritual. They congregate on some desolate hillside or in the bowels of some dark, God-forsaken valley with one aim in mind - to pit their skills against nature and fellow man by competing in a 4x4 CCTV Trial.

West Wales 4x4 Group hold an annual championship with 10 trials during the year, rounded off with a "Fun Trial" around Christmas. Some of this hardy bunch are also members of the neighbouring Mid-Wales 4x4 Club, who hold monthly trials for their own championship, and so repeat the ritual every two weeks.
All events are run within RAC Motorsports regulations and spectators are always welcome. We never charge spectators entry fees, we just ask that they respect our safety rules and do not abuse the landowner's hospitality.

Other club members, almost certainly high on Castrol 'R', seem to need the adrenaline rush brought on by pilotting their bucking and spitting vehicles at indecent velocities through mud, brush, quarry and forest. They are hooked on that other 4x4 pastime, the Competitive Safari; or Comp., for short.

Vehicles are placed in various classes, based on their length and degree of modification, which range from roadworthy and completely standard vehicles to highly modified specials that often bear no resemblance to road going vehicles and may well have been built from several different makes of vehicle.
